It’s not dance music, but The Cribs are one of my favorite rock groups. I’m sure they hate being compared to The Strokes, so I won’t do a comparison… Anyway, here is 1 song from each of their 3 albums. Can you remix rock music without adding electronic elements? If you’re 25 Hours A Day, the answer is yes. I don’t know how he does it, but this guy reworks the guitar elements already inside a great rock song and makes it even better. I can’t dance to many rock songs without a synthetic bass line or melody, but these tracks are the exception:

I realize you kids love electro. Here’s 7 songs with dirty beats and a pinch of distortion:

The Bobmo track is probably the most similar to the electro tracks you like.

The Breakbot track is funky and noisy at the same time.

The SebastiAn remix of the Editors track has a peculiar, haunting charm.

The Xinobi track sounds like a disco house track with an electro instrument dropped on top of it.

電気GROOVE (Denki Groove) is from Japan – their track, 誰だ! (Dare Da! / Who’s That!), is more tech house than electro, but I thought it’d fit nicely. Denki Groove doesn’t have a MySpace, but check out Kagami (the remix artist) – I dig his original work.

A bit slower, the Dusty Kid track is an electro hit of yesteryear.

Finally, the Designer Drugs remix of Protokoll has an epic, melodic breakdown around 3′45″ – don’t miss it.

The first edition of Grab Bag, this week’s trio of singles are 2 servings of electro (with a dash of remixed rock), served hot. For desert, artsy Japanese electronica that I’m sure most of you have never tasted.

Birdy Nam Nam came out of nowhere, and is going somewhere – fast. The weird vocals in “Trans Boulogne Express” around the 2 minute mark will make you want to spaz out.

The G.E.R.M. remix of The Locarnos is dark, yet speedy enough to make you flail about when the strobe light should go off at 4′17″. When I hear music, I see lights – don’t you?

Lastly, we have Cornelius serving up an exotic delicacy, with one of the best breakdowns I’ve ever heard at at 3′50″.

Unsigned artist DJ Cuba Gooding Jr injects his love for Lifelike and Valerie directly into his music, which is a cross between synth house & electronica. Also the singer for Glasnost, he runs his voice through effects and puts them on his original tracks for an airy, detached feel.
